“YORKTOWN – The town will receive a $105,000 county grant for renovations to the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center.
Town Supervisor Susan Siegel announced at the Dec. 14 Town Board meeting that Town Planning Director John Tegeder secured additional money from the county’s Community Development Block Grant.
The grant will be added to the $125,000 from unused block grant money and $300,000 in the general fund set aside for senior entertainment.
A majority of the center’s renovations are being made to accommodate the seniors.
“The major change is the new corridor,” Siegel said. “We are building a new corridor from the entranceway at the lower level by the stage that will go directly into the nutrition center, we’re totally redoing the nutrition center and relocating the nutrition center office and the Yorktown Stage box office.”
The nutrition center will have a movable partition to be utilized as one large room or two separate rooms and the ceiling will be raised to increase natural light. Community room 16, where seniors meet now, is being refurbished with new carpeting, paint, closet doors and kitchen cabinets, Siegel said. Community room 1 is being converted to a computer room.
Councilman Vishnu Patel has donated $6,500 to cover the cost of hardware and software and Sullivan Data, the town’s I.T. consultant, is donating its support for one year, Siegel said.”
